Red Tail Ridge Winery
Concerned with terroir, the winery owners desired to use exclusively native-to-NY species. To compliment the modern space, preserve views, and reflect the long horizontal lines of the Finger Lakes landscape, a gently curving meadow was designed around the pavilion. Meant to be appreciated from within the pavilion as well as from the driveway, the meadow provides clean lines and rich and changing colors and textures, as well as providing forage and habitat to a variety of birds and invertebrates. Judicious use of shrubs along the entry path and in the inside corners of the building help guide visitors and provide subtle variation. Two Aspen trees stand out against the dark wood of the pavilion and provide additional interest with their shimmering leaves at this breezy site.
